Drought Situation & EW Phase Classification

Biophysical Indicators

  • The vegetation cover slightly reduced as indicated by reducing average vegetation condition index value from 62.24 to 53.25 for the county average. All sub counties are in the normal condition category and no drought. The lowest recorded is 46.03 for balambala and the highest is 60.8 for Lagdera.

  • The state of water sources at5 as most water pans have water though on high use.

Socio Economic Indicators (Impact Indicators)

  • Livestock body conditions remained stable for the month with a score of 5 except for few lactating herd that are in score of 3-4, however the condition may not last long as the trekking distances increase and the forage quality deteriorates.

  • The average milk produced during the month was 42litres an increase of 4 litres from the previous month. The condition is attributed to increased birth rates for small stock availability of pastures and browse in the rangelands.

  • The current MUAC levels reduced from 13.74% to 12.56%. indicating the percentages of children at risk to malnutrition continue to decrease thus improvement on the overall nutrition status of children below five years.
