HIGHLIGHTS

  • During the reporting period, a total of 163 individuals arrived in Somalia from Yemen to Berbera, Somaliland (131 persons) and Bossaso, Puntland (32 persons). According to data collection by the authorities at the Ports of entry, a total of 28,596 persons have arrived in Somalia from Yemen as of 27 March 2015. Out of those, 17,265 were registered by UNHCR in collaboration with local authorities and partners in Berbera, Bossaso and Mogadishu Reception Centers.

  • Two boats arrived in Bossaso; a boat named Fathul Khayr on 5 August 2015 carrying 19 individuals (15 Somalis and 4 Yemenis) and a boat named Shamis 4 on 9 August 2015 carrying 13 individuals (all Somalis).

  • On 8 August 2015, a commercial vessel named Asadadin carrying 131 individuals (119 Somalis, 10 Yemenis and 2 Ethiopians) arrived in Berbera, Somaliland.

  • UNHCR Regional Refugee Coordinator for the Yemen Situation, Ms. Claire Bourgeois, is visiting Nairobi and Somaliland between 6 and 13 August to assess response and coordination of the impact of Yemen crisis.
