Latest updates from Socotra Island, suggest that no more casualties have been reported, with the total number of people killed by the two cyclones still 26 in all affected areas of Yemen. Local authorities in Socotra are concluding an assessment on humanitarian needs and infrastructural damages on the island, including houses, which should be ready in the coming days to inform response and recovery efforts. Based on existing information, the priorities continue to be food, fuel, non-food items (NFIs), tents and medical supplies.
Reports from a coalition of local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) highlight continuing needs among the affected population in Shabwah. In the village of Jilaa, 250 houses were damaged, with 212 families subsequently displaced and now staying with friends, relatives and in public buildings in various villages in Rodum district. In Beir Ali, 41 houses were destroyed and over 400 families displaced, the majority of whom are in the districts of Mayfah (292) and Rodum (81). In addition, there are an estimated 1,430 non-displaced affected families in Rodum district, most of whom are in need of tents, mattresses, blankets, cooking materials and food.
In Hadramaut, the coalition of local NGOs reports that there are over 5,000 affected, non-displaced families. This includes 2,324 families in Al Mukalla, 2,200 in Buroum, 326 in Al Hami, 157 in Al Rayda Wa Qusaier and 53 in Al Dis Sharqiah. They also report 900 displaced families, the majority of whom are in Buroum (736) and Al Mukalla (240). Of these, approximately 150 families are sheltering in schools.
